Rather than switching off each time, windows 8 actually goes into a sort of hibernate each time you switch off your device and therefore it would be able to reboot a lot faster each time you turn it on.
Even if you are using XP and do not want to spend, consider upgrading to Windows 7. Remarkably, however, it is possible to restore the traditional Windows Start menu.
